The singing tradition in Ireland (known as sean nós) is an unaccompanied presentation of song. There is no one correct way to do it and neither is there a prescribed pedagogy. Songs are learned simply by singing them -- imagine that! There are challenges inherent to this style of singing; namely not having a guitar or piano to hide behind. But there is also tremendous beauty in the freedom that comes with singing without typical constraints of rhythm and pitch. This workshop will attempt to answer questions related to the singing of Irish songs, phrasing, and ornamentation. You will be encouraged to sing, but not required! Just come and listen, and bring all the questions you've been afraid to ask...
